Spells for Forgetting

5/5  ⭐ An atmospheric setting, steeping in traditions and folklore with a tightknit community on the secluded island of Saoirse make this adult fantasy impossible to put down.  Drawn together no matter the time or distance, Emery and August must face difficult facts as the truth about what drove August away all those years ago comes to light. Others, determined to keep the truth well buried will do anything to keep it that way. No matter the cost.  Young balances magic and mystery perfectly as the story progresses, reaching the climatic point that will leave you stunned.  This novel is not one to miss. Thank you to NetGalley and Random House Publishing for the eARC in exchange for an honest review.

WWW Wednesday 9/14/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? I am just starting Shady Hollow by Juneau Black. It is a cozy mystery where all the characters are woodland creatures. I am very excited to start it! This past week I finished Over my Dead Body by Sweeney Boo. This is an amazing YA graphic novel featuring found family, witchcraft, and long kept secrets coming to light. I loved the artwork so much! Secretly Yours (ARC)  by Tessa Bailey. This ARC was very kindly sent to me by the publisher. This is a grumpy/sunshine romance that is for the masses.  Cackle  by Rachel Harrison. A speculative fiction that I read in one day I was so enthralled.  I am coming back after an over a month long reading slump so I am letting myself just read whatever I...

Autumn TBR List

Happy Fall! It is finally Fall and I could not be happier. The past two months have been really difficult with impossibly hot weather and working all the time. And because of how busy I have been I haven't read anything traditionally published in over a month... I haven't read a book since the middle of July.  And I am desperate to read something. Without oversharing, things have been going on in the background that also impacted my ability and want to read and I am trying to push through that so here we are! I saw a booktube video about an Autumn TBR list and I thought that would be a great idea for a post to welcome me back into the thick of things!  Since I am mood reader and very much leaning into the autumn vibes I am going to build my TBR list around that and some ARCs I was fortunate enough to receive. I am looking for some easier, lighter reads in an attempt to ease myself into and not overwhelm my baby brain with something too intense. It's been over a month, I got...

Gallows Hill - Darcy Coates

5/5 ⭐ TBR: 9/6/22 And she is back with another bone-chilling, keep you up all night, make your heart pound horror. If you’ve been around you know that I love Darcy Coates' work. And any and every chance I get, I try to get a copy to read and review. When I saw that she was releasing a second novel this year I squealed and immediately when on the hunt for the arc. Enter Margot Hull, daughter of the recently deceased Hugh and Maria Hull, owners of the world-renowned Gallows Hill Winery. Margot knows little about her parents and her family as she was sent away at a young age and never went back until the day of the funeral. When she arrives at her old family home, secrets long buried come to light as Margot is forced to face the nightmares that curse the land. This is a slow burn tense and foreboding atmospheric masterpiece. And what I thought was going to be a ghost story turned out to be so much more, in the best way possible. This haunted house tale comes with it all. A tragic, blo...

The Honeys - Ryan La Sala

5/5 ⭐ TBR: 8/16/22 Dark academia meets summer camp, and the vibes are immaculate. This LGBTQIA+ inclusive horror will bring the monsters into the daylight and make the reader rethink everything they thought they knew about the horror genre. With the genderfluid Mars and the rest of the Hive, each with their own purpose, this is one community... cult, that you don’t want to mess with. This is such a divine summer read, and I so enjoyed it! Thank you to Scholastic for access to the arc in exchange for an honest review. 7/27/22 *This review was previously posted on my Google Site.

The Accidental Pinup - Danielle Jackson

4/5 ⭐ Meet Cassie Harris, photographer, and owner of Buxom Boudoir where she makes people look beautiful and feel empowered. After getting roped into helping a dear friend with her new lingerie line as the model, not the photographer. Oh no, that job went to her long-time rival in the photography scene Reid Montgomery. This story is filled with body positivity and very inclusive and I loved that. It’s still not as popular or a frequent thing to find as one would hope. The characters were fun and interesting. The romance itself was very fluffy and tropey I find that most modern romances tend to lean that way. Overall this was a solid romance and the ending absolutely made it worth it to finish. Thank you to the publisher for sending me the eARC in exchange for an honest review. 7/19/22 *This review was previously posted on my Google Site.

WWW Wednesday 7/13/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? I am currently reading The Night Circus  by Erin Morgenstern and The Science of Murder: The Forensics of Agatha Christie  by Carla Valentine.  I have recently finished: Lavender House (ARC) a LGBTQIA+ Knives Out-esque old school murder mystery that is a solid read. The Stranded (ARC) a YA dystopian/sci-fi that sounded promising but I didn't quite like it.  The House in the Pines (ARC) a thriller/horror-esque story that was creepy to read but had a sort of satisfying ending. Barbarian Lover (ARC)  (I just had to know what all the hype was about.) Not the biggest fan of romances but I read it and it wasn't so bad.  I am hoping to finish a couple of books that I have started but not finish...

WWW Wednesday 6/22/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? Currently I am reading,  Ace  by Angela Chen. A book that I have had for about a year and am rereading it and finishing it. I am annotating it and having a lot of fun so far.  Also I picked up To Sleep in a Sea of Stars  by Christopher Paolini at the library earlier, but haven't started it just yet.  I missed last weeks WWW Wednesday post so I am combining last weeks and this weeks. It been a bit of a slow time for me. I have been reading more fic and such online than traditionally printed material. Also I have been struggling to find something that actually interests me. I have been getting bored rather quickly.  Recently, I finished Gamer + Cat  Vol. 1. It's a super cute slice of life a...

The Last to Vanish

4/5 ⭐ Set in a quiet little town, popular for it's easy access to the Appalachian trail, this atmospheric thriller will keep you on your toes as you race to learn the truth. With 6 missing people in the past 25 years Cutter's Pass has a long history that everyone loves to ask about. May Wrap-Up

Welcome to the Solarium~ I actually had to re write this post because I unintentionally deleted it. That was very upsetting but I sucked it up and rewrote it.  Overall, May was a really good month. I made a major dent in my TBR list (even though it grew constantly) and I made some progress on my WIPs. So without further ado, let's get in to it~ Over the month of May I read and finished 11 titles: The Honeys by Ryan La Sala  (ARC)  5/5 - a YA horror novel featuring a diverse set of characters and an interesting horror twist.  Gallows Hill  by Darcy Coates  (ARC)  5/5 - another solid horror from Darcy Coates featuring a cursed family on blood soaked land. A Psalm for the Wild-Built  by Becky Chambers💜- a monk and robot meet in the wilderness and talk about anything and everything.  The Last to Vanish  by Megan Miranda (ARC)  4/5 - a thriller set in a small town full to bursting with secrets.  The Accidental Pinup by Danielle Ja...

April Wrap-Up

Hello! It is a little late but I thought I would still write up a quick monthly wrap-up for April. Its been a year already but I hope all is going well for you! As for reading, it was a relatively slow month. I traveled for a bit and was in a bit of a slump. So I technically only read three books. But I did post a review every week!  In April I read Legends & Lattes  by Travis Baldree which is a low-stakes, slice of life fantasy story. It is one of my favorite reads of the year so far and I will definitely be rereading it later on.  I also read Violets  by Kyung-sook Shin. A translation from the original Korean, follows San and explores the role and life of women in Korean Society.  And finally, I read The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers. The first in her well known Wayfarer series, this Space Opera is not one to miss. I fell in love with Chambers work after thi...

Under the Whispering Door - TJ Klune

5/5 ⭐ 💜   Possible Spoilers - Read with care Whatever I expected before picking this one up was thrown out the window and obliterated. I had known that TJ Klune was a popular and well-written author. I knew that this book was going to be good. I just didn't realize how good it would be. There is something reassuring about his writing that doesn't drag you down into it or anything like that. Rather it welcomes you in, offers you something comforting, and invites you to stay. And that is an invitation you can't turn down. Because you don't want to. You want to sit and stay and feel every emotion and feeling he writes, the happy and the sad. Because it feels genuine. This is a story that talks about death at length and at points in vivid detail. It walks you through the five stages of grief in such a way that you almost forget that it is essential to the story. Not that it becomes insignificant, rather it happens so fluidly and naturally. It's never choppy or overly i...

The Love Hypothesis - Ali Hazelwood

5/5 ⭐ Told completely from the female lead's POV, this one-of-a-kind romcom will leave you pleasantly satisfied. Olive is a third-year Ph.D. student who is desperate to convince her best friend that she is happily dating even though she doesn't believe in dating. Or relationships. Then in steps, the intimidating, scary, but still very attractive Dr. Adam Carlsen saves her from a mess of her own making. What happens between these two is nothing short of adorable and quirky with just a few spicy moments to tide you over. As for their budding romance, it is definitely among the opposites attract the line. He is grumpy and takes his coffee black. And she is sunshine and loves all things sweet. But it is the cutest. He is only sweet towards her and takes care of her and who doesn't love that in a fictional character. I was rooting for them from the very beginning. Like many others, I am a fan of the fake dating trope and even the professor-student relationship. Two very cliché a...

Such a Quiet Place - Megan Miranda

4/5 ⭐   Her conviction overturned, Ruby Fletcher has returned to Hollow's Edge putting everyone on edge. A suspenseful and thrilling mystery set in the idyllic community of Hollow's Edge where the residents have been plagued with bad luck and hidden secrets. The cracks are starting to widen as Ruby's presence frightens everyone around her. I felt that at the beginning it felt a little slow and it was hard to get into but eventually I couldn't put it down! I thought the inclusion of the Community Page messages was a nice breakup and also included something that everyone has probably had some experience with. It was definitely a slow burn mystery that made me question everything that happened. Who was telling the truth? Who was lying? What secrets were they keeping from one another? It kept me on the edge of my seat the entire time and is a perfect summer read. Thank you to NetGalley, Edelweiss+, and the publisher for my advanced review copy. Out on July 13, 2021. 6/7/21 ...
