WWW Wednesday 6/29/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? I am currently reading For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten, it is a Red Riding Hood retelling and so far I am really enjoying it.  I am still working though ACE by Angela Chen. I have been taking my time with it so I don't unintentionally speed read it and miss something. It has been eye opening and educational in ways I hadn't anticipated it being.  I have recently finished a reread of Craven Manor by Darcy Coates. June was a very slow reading month for me. I fell into a bit of a reading slump that I just haven't quite pulled myself out of. (I am hoping to remedy this by a new book order I just placed.) I am hoping to start on To Sleep in a Sea of Stars by Christopher Paolini soon. I have been sitting on it for a while and h

A Galaxy Next Door Vol 1 - Gido Amagakure

5/5 ⭐ This is a fun, fresh, and super cute introduction for this new manga series. And it will definitely be one that I keep an eye out for going forward. This series follows Ichiro Kuga who is a manga artist supporting his younger siblings after his father passed away. He has a fast approaching deadline that makes finding an assistant even more urgent. Enter sweetheart and incredible artist in their own right, Shiori Goshiki. Who ends up being more than what meets the eye. The art work is amazing, the story so nice and refreshing. And I just can not wait for the second volume to come. Thank you to the NetGalley and the Publisher for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. 6/28/22 *This review was previously posted on my Google Site.

WWW Wednesday 6/22/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? Currently I am reading,  Ace  by Angela Chen. A book that I have had for about a year and am rereading it and finishing it. I am annotating it and having a lot of fun so far.  Also I picked up To Sleep in a Sea of Stars  by Christopher Paolini at the library earlier, but haven't started it just yet.  I missed last weeks WWW Wednesday post so I am combining last weeks and this weeks. It been a bit of a slow time for me. I have been reading more fic and such online than traditionally printed material. Also I have been struggling to find something that actually interests me. I have been getting bored rather quickly.  Recently, I finished Gamer + Cat  Vol. 1. It's a super cute slice of life and one I will definitely be looking o

The Last to Vanish

4/5 ⭐ Set in a quiet little town, popular for it's easy access to the Appalachian trail, this atmospheric thriller will keep you on your toes as you race to learn the truth. With 6 missing people in the past 25 years Cutter's Pass has a long history that everyone loves to ask about. After an unexpected guest turns up and jumpstarts an search for answers, Abby becomes embroiled in the search for the most recent missing person and doesn't know who to trust with clues. This mystery is filled with twists and turns and leaves you guess right up until the end. Everyone has a secret they are trying to keep buried. And you never know what might get turned up. *This title is due to be released July 26th, 2022. Thank you to NetGalley and Scribner/Marysue Rucci books for the eARC in exchange for an honest review. 6/21/22 *This review was previously published on my Google Site.

Before the Coffee Gets Cold - Toshikazu Kawaguchi

5 /5 ⭐ There is something magical about this book. Beyond the time-traveling aspect. This tucked-away cafe serves coffee and gives visitors a chance to travel back in time provided they follow a specific set of rules. In this first set of stories, we get to see how four different visitors use the opportunity to travel back in time and how it affects them in the present and future. The age-old question… if you could go back in time would you? What would you want to do, see, or talk to? This is a beautiful story that explores those questions and while bittersweet in parts is satisfying in all ways. Kawaguchi takes us on a journey that gives us a look into what could happen if you got the chance to visit the past. 6/14/22 *This review was previously posted on my Google Site.

WWW Wednesday 6/8/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? Currently,  I am reading Hide  by Kiersten White, an adult hide and seek with a lot at stake.  Unlike normal I am just reading the one since I have been a little slow to find something that I am interested in.  Recently I finished Death and the Conjuror  by Tom Mead, this was an eARC I received from NetGalley. It is a locked room mystery and the 'amateur' sleuth is a semi retired magician which I thought was fun! A full review will come closer to the release date.  All Systems Red  by Martha Wells, this is a super fun, sci fi novella that had been recommended to me and I loved it. I ended up reading it in about 2-2.5 hours this past weekend and just about screamed when I finished it, I enjoyed it so much.  I did decide to DNF

Cleopatra's Dagger - Carole Lawrence

3/5 ⭐ While this story started great and had some really great qualities, it, unfortunately, fell flat for me. I tend to avoid historical fiction and I had hoped that the murder mystery aspect would help. And I think it would have if it had actually been about the murders. But instead, they became almost an afterthought. I was drawn in by the attention to detail and well-developed prose but after a while, it was overwhelming and tedious. It felt like it took forever to get to the point and while some build-up is good, this was too much. This is definitely for someone, but not me. 6/7/22 *This review was previously posted on my Google Site.

May Wrap-Up

Welcome to the Solarium~ I actually had to re write this post because I unintentionally deleted it. That was very upsetting but I sucked it up and rewrote it.  Overall, May was a really good month. I made a major dent in my TBR list (even though it grew constantly) and I made some progress on my WIPs. So without further ado, let's get in to it~ Over the month of May I read and finished 11 titles: The Honeys by Ryan La Sala  (ARC)  5/5 - a YA horror novel featuring a diverse set of characters and an interesting horror twist.  Gallows Hill  by Darcy Coates  (ARC)  5/5 - another solid horror from Darcy Coates featuring a cursed family on blood soaked land. A Psalm for the Wild-Built  by Becky Chambers💜- a monk and robot meet in the wilderness and talk about anything and everything.  The Last to Vanish  by Megan Miranda (ARC)  4/5 - a thriller set in a small town full to bursting with secrets.  The Accidental Pinup by Danielle Jackson  (ARC)  4/5 - a body positive romance featuring a

WWW Wednesdays 6/1/22

Welcome to WWW Wednesday! This is a meme hosted by Sam of  Taking on a World of Words . A fun midweek check-in where you answer three questions: What are you currently reading? What did you recently finish reading?  What do you think you'll read next? I fell into a bit of a slump over the holiday weekend. It was the first time in a long while that I had more than one day off where I didn't have any other commitments. So I spent time playing some new video games I got that are in early access and relaxing.  I am still working through The Lighthouse Witches  and Craven Manor.  Nothing.    I hope to get back on track this week and going forward. Both libraries that I work at have started their summer reading programs so I will be participating in both.   I am eager to read A Marvellous Light  and Babel (ARC).  And that is all for this week. Hopefully by next week I'll have something more exciting.  ~A.G.
